They are calling it 'Mobilegeddon', because as of the 20th April 2015 Google has updated their search engine algorithm to favor those websites that are responsive and developed for mobile devices. These giant changes could crush millions of small business, with a Google representative quoted saying it will have “a significant impact” on companies search ranking.

A chief product officer at global payment processor Worldpay has welcomed the changes stating that "This move should send a message to companies whose websites are poorly configured for smartphone users” and goes on to explain that “optimising for mobile is no longer a matter of choice", instead a matter of urgency.

The move, even though damaging for some companies, has its reason. Currently around 60% of online traffic comes from mobile devices, Google wants users to have a good experience when they click on a mobile link.
